27J Schools announced the hiring of Dr. Kerry Chisnall as the next principal of Brighton High School.

Chisnall’s hiring follows an extensive hiring process to select a new leader for Brighton High School after the announcement of current principal Shelly Genereux’s retirement at the end of the current school year.

“Kerry has the perfect blend of experience, expertise, purpose, and mindset to help BHS continue to thrive into the future,” 27J Schools Deputy Superintendent Will Pierce said in a message shared with BHS families and staff.

Pierce cited Chisnall’s focus on the importance of service to every BHS student, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout his interview process.

Chisnall brings school administrative experience at all levels of K-12 from a 23-year education career spent almost exclusively in North Carolina public schools and charter schools. He most recently served as the principal of GC Hawley Middle School in Granville County Public Schools in Oxford, N.C. Previously, Chisnall served in a brief interim school leader role for a new K-8 charter school in Colorado Springs and, prior to that, for nearly five years as founding principal of Johnston Charter Academy K-8 in Clayton, N.C., both operated by National Heritage Academies.

Chisnall received his Doctorate of Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Master of School Administration from Campbell University.

He will officially begin his new role at Brighton High School July 9, 2024.
